In the stadium of football club Sint-Truiden, the young players have been able to discover what citizenship means. The educational project Team4Democracy has given workshops for 6 weeks on respect, cooperation and inclusion. "The football stadium becomes the classroom", says Jean-Daniel Vaneste of Team4Democracy. "With examples from football, young people easily recognize themselves in situations around group pressure, diversity and cooperation." The young people receive in-depth tasks, role-playing and group tasks that allow them to experience how democracy works in practice. For example, we let them work on a logo. A group gets colorful pens, the other gets a black pen and two pens that don't work. We then discuss how the winners are actually not real winners. Stayen is the first location in Limburg to participate in the Team4 Democracy project of BELvue, an organization that works on democracy. They were also guests at Club Brugge, Union SG, Standard and KAS Eupen. By organizing sessions in a football stadium, the project wants to lower the threshold for young people and make social issues accessible in a way that is easy to discuss. Sport is much more than keeping your body healthy. You also learn to work together and treat each other with respect. Schepen van sport Gunter Dauw "The project fits perfectly into the role of sport in society", says Schepen van sport Gunter Dauw (N-VA) . "Sport encompasses much more than keeping your body healthy. You also learn to work together and treat each other with respect." After the young players of STVV, the city wants to expand the initiative to other football clubs and later also to schools.
